Nothing official has been released yet from the Mid Kent Fisheries concerning the death, or actual cause of death of the British record carp, but the UK carp forums and even the BBC have already reported the very sad news.
My blog is rapidly becoming a carp obituary, since the inception of Niblet’s Carp Fishing Blog in August 2009 I’ve paid tribute to several iconic fish, such as Benson and Heather. Though neither of those fish I held as dearly as Two Tone. Not just because it was the biggest fish in the land, but for the fact it lived in a lake belonging to a club in which I’ve fished. In 1995 I had the opportunity to fish at Conningbrook, but declined, and instead fished several other smaller Mid Kent Fisheries venues. This was due to not being equipped properly to fish a big water like ‘The Brook’, having just flown from Australia to visit family in Canterbury. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Two Tone was only a forty back then, and certainly far less famous?

It is with some irony that even although I’m an Aussie blogger, I was only discussing the MKF and Two Tone yesterday, whilst attending a social at Darenth’s Long Lake. It wasn’t until I arrived back to Canterbury last night that my brother ‘Disaster Caster’ (a long time MKF member) informed me of the loss of their record carp.Whatever views you hold concerning Two Tone, nothing can detract from the fact it was a magnificent creature that was revered, loved and pursued by many carp anglers for over a decade. Every time I’ve gone over to Ashford Tackle, I’ve sneaked a look at the lake as I’ve passed by. Doing this in the future will now seem somewhat less magical with the absence of this monster fish!
